Unleash Yourself

As a young woman, it is imperative to unleash yourself from your parents in a way that is honorable and respectful. Although your parents will always be just that, your parents, there comes a time to leave the nest and fly on your own.

The best manner in which to do this is going away to college. I know that college is not cheap, but I fully believe that what is gained is far surpassed the financial cost. In Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old he will not depart from it." This means that parents are to teach their children by directing their path. Once it is ingrained in you, then you will continue to follow what you have been taught.

Exodus 20:12, "Honor your father and mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you." Is a commandment that we are given and that must be maintained.

Go out and discover who you are according to God. It is imperative that you fall and get back up on your own. God can not show you that He is God, until you fall flat on your face. If you continue to allow your parents to bail you out every time, you will never learn this lesson. As a consequence, you will not develop your own relationship with Jesus.

Learn how to make your own decisions. This does not mean that you shut your parents out of your life. It does mean that after you seek counsel from God, you make the decision and allow for imput from your parents. Most parents want the best for their children and will give their advice, but the final decision has to be yours and yours alone.

God has a plan and purpose for each of us to live. Do not try to live the plan of someone else's life. God gave different dreams to everyone and it is up to you to make your dream come true.
